Kristel opened the door. She waved her friend in and went back into the kitchen to finish dinner.

“Wow, home-cooked meal and everything,” said Jade, entering the kitchen.

“Well, I figured with Bri gone you were eating take-out, ramen, or popcorn.”

“You think you know me so well,” Jade said, sticking her tongue out at her best friend. “I made pork tenderloin, couscous, and green beans last night.”

“Oh right, Rachel came over,” smirked Kristel seeing Jade blush. “How did that go?”

“I have lots to tell you about yesterday. Some is going to piss you off, though.”

“Do I need to kick some redhead ass? You know I will, too.”

“No, you leave her ass alone.”

“Well, dinner is going to be ready in a little bit. Wine? Beer? Or would you like something else to drink?”

“Beer please,” said Jade.

Kristel handed Jade a beer and grabbed one for herself, and they headed into the living room to talk.

“All right, talk to me.”

“Amy’s parents came over yesterday afternoon and Alice basically called me a bad parent.”

“What? You are the best parent I know, and that includes myself. Why would she say that?”

“Bri brought up Rachel. Bo and Alice asked me who she was. After that I explained about the group, what Rachel helped with for Amy’s anniversary, and then us going to the zoo. Alice questioned me about parading people through Bri’s life who weren’t going to be there in the long run and not thinking of what introducing those people through could do to Bri mentally, not to mention physically, if I bring the wrong person home.”

“Wait, are you telling me that she accused you of sleeping around?”

“Yes,” Jade said before taking a large drink.

“Wow, I am going to go kick Alice’s ass.”

“Oh, it gets worse...Bri overheard...”

Kristel dropped her head. There was a mix of emotions running through her. She was sad that Brianna overheard what had transpired, she was angry that Alice would hurt Jade this way, and furious at the accusations made by Bo and Alice.

“After they left I broke down…”

“Why didn’t you call me?”

“Rachel called right after. She could tell something was wrong and she dropped everything and came over. When she got there she just held me and let me cry.”

“I like that woman more and more.”

“Then we made dinner, she asked me to be her girlfriend, or more specifically, for us to be a couple, I said yes, we called and talked to Brianna. I guess Alice overheard Brianna talking to Amy and realized that she was an ass. Alice apologized to me and then invited Rachel and me over for dinner on Saturday. She said that she and Bo want to get to know Rachel because she is going to be a part of our lives.”

“Back up there, Donovan.” Kristel saw Jade avert her eyes. “Now, let’s go back to the part of your little story where you said Rachel asked you to be her girlfriend.”

“It seems fairly self-explanatory to me,” Jade said, still not looking at Kristel.

“Very funny. So, you are seriously involved with the sexy redhead?”

“Yes,” Jade said, blushing.
